Bridges Leopold Park
Public heritage
Restoration of two historic bridges in the protected Leopold Park in Ostend.
Two monumental arch bridges connect the central island of Leopold Park to its surrounding landscape. Constructed between 1866 and 1870, the bridges form an integral part of this protected urban park and are key elements of Ostend’s built heritage.
The restoration prioritised the preservation of the bridges’ historic character alongside structural reinforcement. Works included thorough cleaning, the careful removal and replacement of deteriorated plaster and masonry, and a finish that respects the original materials and colour palette.
The restored bridges are once again part of the park’s circulation and visual structure, reinforcing the clarity and continuity of the original landscape design.
