In Memoriam – Hans Van Bever

In Memoriam – Hans Van Bever
Ghent, 21 January 1963 – 23 February 2026

Hans Van Bever was part of our practice for nearly twenty-five years — first as a project architect, later as partner. He joined us in 2001, bringing with him a strong architectural background shaped by his studies at Sint-Lucas in Ghent and his early professional experience, including his time in the office of Marcel Smets.

From the outset, Hans stood out for his clarity of thought and his sensitivity to form and detail. He had a quiet but decisive presence within the team: someone who listened carefully, recognised quality in the work of others, and knew how to elevate a project through dialogue and precision. His modesty and integrity made him not only a valued designer, but also a trusted colleague and mentor.

Over the years, he contributed to a wide range of projects — from educational and cultural buildings to housing and public architecture — leaving a distinct and lasting mark on our work and on the culture of the office. Among the many projects to which he made a particularly significant contribution were the new wing for the Braun school and Villa Voortman in Ghent, and more recently the community centre in Stekene and the renovation and extension of the St Bavo high school in Ghent.

In 2006, he became partner, helping to guide the practice with the same dedication and thoughtfulness that characterised his approach to design.

We remember him with gratitude — for his architectural intelligence, his calm generosity, and his enduring commitment to the practice.

Our thoughts are with his wife Annick, his two sons, and their family.
