Participation process for Ypres outdoor swimming pool
On 8 and 9 September, the city of Ypres organised two participation moments on the redevelopment of the former outdoor swimming pool and we as designers were also present. Everyone was welcome to think about the first scenarios for the redevelopment of the swimming site and to give feedback on some of the proposals.
The former outdoor swimming pool is a special place for many people of Ypres. Located at the end of Vauban's imposing ramparts, part of the moat was walled in 1884 and set up as a military swimming pool. After World War I, a new pool was designed and this time it was also open to residents. In 2001, the pool closed its doors permanently.
With this participatory approach, we let the people's preferences form the basis for the final redevelopment of this long-underused place. The first reactions of the Ypres people were already positive. And now, we get back to work to incorporate their feedback.
